Turkish Stars dazzled at Turkish Language Day celebrations in Karaman with a spectacular air show. Thousands witnessed the breathtaking display

Karaman celebrated the 747th anniversary of Turkish Language Day and Yunus Emre Commemoration in grand style. The festivities culminated in a stunning display by the Turkish Stars, the Turkish Air Force’s aerobatic demonstration team.

Karaman Governor Huseyin Engin Sarıibrahim, Mayor of Karaman Savas Kalaycı, Karamanoglu Mehmetbey University rector professor Mehmet Gavgali and approximately 5,000 viewers attended the Turkish Stars air show held in the Turkish World Culture Park.

The event garnered intense interest from citizens, who filled the area to witness the air show, capturing the moments with excitement and keenness, documenting them with their mobile phone cameras. Following the air show, a torchlight procession was organized in the city center.

The cortege started in front of Yunus Emre Mosque and continued with citizens proudly marching towards Aktekke 15 July Democracy Square with Turkish flags and torches.

The celebrations ended with a concert by the Police Band Orchestra.

Historical significance

The anniversary of the adoption of Turkish as the official language by Shams al-Din Mehmed on May 13, 1277 is celebrated every year in May. Shams al-Din Mehmed was the founder and statesman of the Karaman principality in Anatolia.

Yunus Emre, on the other hand, is a Turkish poet and Sufi who grew up in Anatolia. A Turkmen dervish of the last half of the 13th and early 14th centuries, Yunus Emre is considered the pioneer of Turkish poetry in Anatolia.
