Turkish security sources deny FETO terror group’s leader Gulen was brought to Türkiye
Turkish officials Tuesday denied reports suggesting that the ringleader of the FETO terrorist organization, Fetullah Gulen, has been brought to Türkiye.
Recently, journalist Muyesser Yildiz claimed that the U.S. had extradited Fetullah Gülen, the leader of the FETO terrorist organization, to Türkiye and that he was on his way to be brought to Türkiye.
After the allegation spread on social media, Turkish authorities issued a statement, in which it was stated that the news reports on the allegations were not true.
“The news on social media and websites that FETO ringleader Fetullah Gulen has been brought to Türkiye is not true,” the statement verified.
FETO, directed by Fetullah Gulen, who is headquartered in the U.S., planned the July 15, 2016, failed coup attempt in Türkiye that left many people dead. Gulen has been a resident in Pennsylvania, U.S., for a long time. Turkish government have been requesting Gulen’s extradition since the 2016 coup attempt, but U.S. officials have refused to grant this request, claiming that the documentation Türkiye provided was insufficient. The U.S.-Türkiye relationship has long been hampered by the refusal to extradite.
