Turkish defense firm Meteksan Savunma has achieved a significant export milestone by signing an agreement to integrate its multi-mode airborne radar, MILSAR, into the GARMOOSHA unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) of the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

The deal was finalized at the IDEX 2025 International Defense Exhibition and Conference in Abu Dhabi, one of the largest defense industry events in the region.

New capability for UAVs

MILSAR is designed to enhance UAV operations, ensuring effective reconnaissance and surveillance even in adverse weather conditions where electro-optical sensors may be less effective.

The radar system enables UAVs to operate as airborne surveillance hubs, maintaining operational effectiveness even when flying above cloud cover.

According to the agreement, MILSAR radar systems will be integrated into GARMOOSHA, an advanced rotary-wing UAV developed by EDGE’s autonomous systems division, ADASI.

This integration will equip GARMOOSHA with improved target detection and tracking capabilities.

Advanced features of MILSAR

MILSAR features synthetic aperture radar (SAR) and moving target indication (MTI) modes, allowing it to detect and classify potential threats under all weather conditions.

Unlike traditional optical sensors, MILSAR’s radar imaging remains unaffected by fog, clouds, or darkness, making it a critical asset for UAV intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) missions.

With a weight under 30 kilograms, MILSAR is designed for easy integration into tactical UAVs, offering long-range, high-resolution imaging and efficient power consumption.

The radar provides 360-degree surveillance capabilities, further enhancing the effectiveness of UAVs in battlefield and security operations.
