Turkish pop star Serdar Ortac receives suspended sentence for illegal gambling ads

Turkish pop singer Serdar Ortac was sentenced to 10 months in prison and fined ₺400 for promoting illegal gambling, a court ruled on Tuesday at Istanbul’s Caglayan Justice Palace.
The 25th Criminal Court of First Instance suspended the execution of the sentence, effectively placing Ortac on probation.
Prosecutors had initially sought up to three years imprisonment for Ortac on charges of “encouraging and advertising illegal betting.”
The court also lifted previous judicial control measures against the singer.
The case stems from a broader investigation into illegal gambling promotion in Türkiye. Ortac was previously placed under house arrest along with television personality Mehmet Ali Erbil as part of the same investigation.
Following the initial house arrest order, Ortac’s lawyer filed an appeal with the Istanbul High Criminal Court, which subsequently lifted the house arrest measure before today’s final ruling.
The second hearing in the case concluded with the suspended sentence, allowing Ortac to avoid imprisonment unless he commits another offense during his probation period.
