Turkish police detain 47 individuals in counterterrorism raids targeting suspected Daesh/ISIS links across major cities
Turkish police detained 47 individuals suspected of having ties to the terrorist group Daesh/ISIS in major cities such as Ankara and Istanbul, said Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya Wednesday.
Yerlikaya stated on X that police conducted simultaneous Operation Bozdogan-6 raids in Adana and Bursa under the coordination of the Security Intelligence Directorate and the Anti-Terrorism Department.
In Istanbul, 22 suspects linked to Daesh/ISIS were detained, with another apprehended in Kirikkale. Additionally, 15 individuals were captured in Ankara, two in Adana and seven in Bursa.
“A total of 1,162 operations against Daesh have been conducted since June 1, 2023, resulting in the capture of 2,402 suspects,” Yerlikaya noted, commending the police for their successful efforts.
Türkiye was among the first countries to designate Daesh/ISIS as a terrorist organization. The country has faced numerous attacks by the group, resulting in over 300 fatalities and hundreds more injured in various suicide bombings, bomb attacks and armed assaults.
