Turkish officials bust major Methamphetamine operation at Türkiye-Iran border
Turkish Customs Protection teams intercepted a significant drug smuggling operation in a border gate that connects Türkiye and Iran, at Gurbulak Border Gate.
Custom officers seized over 4.5 tons of methamphetamine hidden in creative concealments, including talcum powder and plant roots.
Operation details
The seizure was part of anti-drug trafficking efforts led by the General Directorate of Customs Enforcement. Authorities flagged three trucks entering from Iran as high-risk and subjected them to detailed inspections.
X-ray scans of the vehicles revealed suspicious densities, prompting a thorough search with the assistance of narcotic detection dogs.

Arrests and investigation
The operation, expanded with the support of the Agri Provincial Gendarmerie Command, led to the arrest of those involved. The Dogubayazit Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office has launched a formal investigation into the case.

The Ministry of Trade highlighted the significance of the operation, stating: “A record-breaking drug seizure at the Gurbulak Border Gate has dealt a significant blow to drug traffickers.”
