Türkiye’s largest overseas base
The Somali Turkish Task Force Command, TURKSOM, is Türkiye’s largest overseas base. With the “Defense and Economic Cooperation Framework Agreement” signed in February 2024, the strategic importance of the base has significantly increased.
The base, also known as TURKSOM, was opened on September 30, 2017.
Training is provided to Somali land, air, and naval forces personnel at the Anadolu Barracks.
Support provided in counter-terrorism, at Somalia’s request, will also be extended to maritime security.
This will open the way for the Somali people to benefit from the wealth of the sea.
