Turkish intelligence, police captures key PKK/YPG terrorist at Istanbul Airport
In a joint operation conducted by Türkiye’s National Intelligence Organization (MIT) and the Istanbul Police Department’s Counterterrorism Unit (TEM), Cigdem Aslan, an active member of the PKK/YPG’s Australian network, was apprehended at Istanbul Airport.
Aslan had been under surveillance by Turkish intelligence for an extended period due to her involvement in activities and events organized on behalf of the PKK/YPG in Australia.
She was closely monitored by intelligence officers, who tracked her connections with high-ranking members of the organization.
Coordinated operation at Istanbul Airport
After determining that Aslan was planning to depart for Australia, MIT and TEM executed a coordinated operation at Istanbul Airport, where she was arrested. The arrest marks a significant blow to the PKK/YPG’s overseas activities.
Following her apprehension, Aslan was taken into custody and subsequently brought before a court, where she was formally charged and remanded into custody.
