Turkish intelligence eliminates senior PKK terrorist responsible for youth recruitment in northern Iraq, targeting PKK hideouts in cross-border operation
The Turkish intelligence agency has eliminated a high-ranking PKK terrorist in northern Iraq who was responsible for the youth section of the group.
The National Intelligence Organization (MIT) conducted a cross-border anti-terrorism operation to apprehend Gulsun Silgir, known by the codename Sara Hogir Riha.
She has been linked to various terrorist activities since 2011, including the recruitment of young individuals into the PKK, as per the sources who spoke anonymously because of media restrictions.
It was revealed that she had been active in Iraq’s Sulaymaniyah region since 2021 and was targeted in the Penjwin district of Sulaymaniyah, as stated by the sources.
The PKK often seeks refuge in northern Iraq to plan attacks on Türkiye.
In April 2022, Türkiye initiated Operation Claw-Lock to target PKK hideouts in the northern Iraqi regions of Metina, Zap and Avasin-Basyan along the Turkish border.
Throughout its over 35-year campaign of terror against Türkiye, the PKK – recognized as a terrorist organization by Türkiye, the U.S., and the EU – has caused the deaths of over 40,000 individuals, including women, children and infants.
