Turkish defense company Havelsan has secured a key role in training pilots for the United Arab Emirates (UAE), equipping the country’s B-250 aircraft with an advanced training system developed by Turkish engineers.

Havelsan General Manager Mehmet Akif Nacar speaking exclusively to TRT Haber announced at the IDEX 2025 defense fair in Abu Dhabi that the UAE’s B-250 aircraft will incorporate Havelsan’s ground-based training system.

Additionally, a UAE armored vehicle has been integrated with Havelsan’s tactical command and control system.

Strategic cooperation at IDEX 2025

IDEX 2025 has showcased significant collaborations in the defense sector, with Havelsan and UAE-based Calidus strengthening their partnership.

The two companies worked together to develop a Ground-Based Training System for the B-250 aircraft, aimed at enhancing pilot training efficiency through advanced simulation technologies.

Furthermore, Havelsan and Calidus have collaborated on a tactical command and control system for the AL WASHAQ 4×4 unmanned ground vehicle.

This system, designed by Turkish engineers, enhances battlefield management capabilities and situational awareness.

Growing defense collaboration with UAE

Nacar emphasized Havelsan’s expanding ties with the UAE, stating, “Beyond these two projects, we are engaged in discussions on additional defense initiatives. By the end of this year, we anticipate formalizing further agreements.”

Highlighting the importance of the B-250 training system, Nacar explained, “We have developed a ground-based training system with cutting-edge technology that will elevate the training process for UAE pilots. Our simulator features full 360-degree motion and integrates augmented reality for a highly immersive experience.”

Rise of Turkish defense technology

Reflecting on Türkiye’s growing presence in the international defense industry, Nacar noted that Turkish defense firms have transitioned from being questioned about their capabilities to being recognized as reliable partners.

“Years ago, when we attended international defense fairs, we were frequently asked if our products were operationally proven in Türkiye. Now, we can confidently list the countries using our systems and demonstrate their effectiveness,” he said.

Havelsan expands civilian market presence

Beyond military applications, Havelsan has also made significant strides in the civilian aviation sector. The company recently exported its Airbus A320 Full Flight Simulator (FFS) to France-based Simaero for use in a training center in India.

With this deal, Havelsan’s next-generation flight simulator is now utilized by three major aviation training organizations, including Turkish Airlines and IFTC (International Flight Training Center).

In collaboration with IFTC, Havelsan has also signed an agreement to provide Airbus A320 NEO/CEO flight simulators.
