Turkish air forces eliminate three PKK terrorists in northern Iraq, underscoring ongoing commitment to counterterrorism

Turkish security forces have eliminated three additional members of the PKK terrorist group in northern Iraq, the National Defense Ministry said Tuesday.

“As a result of an air operation conducted in northern Iraq on April 6, 2024, it has been confirmed that 3 more PKK terrorists were neutralized. This brings the total number of terrorists eliminated in the region on April 6 to 9,” the ministry stated. 

The PKK frequently uses hideouts in northern Iraq to plan and carry out terrorist attacks within Türkiye.

In a separate incident in Türkiye’s southeastern Sanliurfa province, a member of the PKK terrorist group was apprehended while attempting to cross the border from Syria, according to security sources.

Legal proceedings have been initiated against the arrested terrorist.

With a history spanning nearly 40 years, the PKK – recognized as a terrorist organization by Türkiye, the U.S., and the European Union – has been responsible for the deaths of over 40,000 people, including women, children, and infants.
