Turkish Football League’s South Korean footballer Hwang Ui-jo, currently playing for Alanyaspor in the Turkish Super League, has received a one-year suspended prison sentence and two years of probation for illegally recording private moments without consent.

According to the reports, the Seoul Central District Court found Hwang guilty of secretly filming individuals in intimate settings without their permission.

Judge Lee Yong-jee underscored the gravity of the offense, stating, “A severe penalty was unavoidable because of the profound harm inflicted on society.”

The sentence was suspended after Hwang admitted fault, apologized to the victims, and provided evidence that the recordings were leaked without his awareness.

Turkish football league player’s scandal tied to familial blackmail

The controversy emerged in June 2023 when Hwang’s former brother-in-law shared the footage online and attempted to blackmail the footballer. The relative, convicted of extortion, was sentenced to three years in prison.
