Turkish FM, intelligence chief attend Munich Security Conference

Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan and Intelligence Chief Ibrahim Kalin attended the Munich Security Conference to engage in diplomatic and intelligence discussions on regional and global security challenges

Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan and Director of the National Intelligence Organization (MIT) Ibrahim Kalin will attend the 60th Munich Security Conference, which begins today. The conference will run for two days, concluding on Sunday, Feb. 18.

The Munich Security Conference, held annually, is a leading forum for debating international security policy and a venue for diplomatic initiatives to address the world’s most pressing security concerns.

This year, around 50 government leaders will attend the conference to discuss international conflicts, geopolitical challenges and trans-Atlantic relations.

According to the Anadolu Agency, Kalin will engage in bilateral discussions with counterparts at the conference within the context of intelligence diplomacy. The discussions will cover regional and global issues, counterterrorism efforts, the situation in Gaza, developments related to the Russia-Ukraine war, and efforts to combat cyber and organized crime.

The conference will kick off with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres’s opening speech. He is expected to call for an immediate humanitarian cease-fire to allow more humanitarian aid into Gaza.

Diplomats from Western and Arab nations are set to convene for a ministerial meeting during the conference sidelines. The agenda includes discussions on diplomatic initiatives aimed at securing a humanitarian pause and facilitating the release of individuals held captive by Hamas.
