Turkish FM Fidan hails ICC arrest warrants for Netanyahu, Gallant as major step toward justice
Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan welcomed the International Criminal Court’s (ICC) decision to issue arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, describing the move as “promising in terms of realization of justice.”
In a statement on his social media, Fidan called the ICC’s action an “extremely important step in bringing Israeli officials who committed genocide against Palestinians to justice.”
“We will continue to work for the implementation of international law, with all its institutions and rules, to punish genocide. This is our duty not only to the slaughtered Palestinians, but to all oppressed nations and future generations,” Fidan added.
The ICC, based in The Hague, announced Thursday that the warrants for Netanyahu and Gallant were issued for “crimes against humanity and war crimes” committed from at least October 8, 2023, to May 20, 2024.
A warrant was also issued for Mohammed Deif, the military chief of Hamas, whom Israel claimed was killed in a July airstrike in Gaza, although Hamas has not confirmed his death.
