Turkish Ministry of National Defense (MoD) hosted a press briefing today, where ministry sources addressed a range of national and international security issues.

The briefing included discussions on the disbandment of terrorist organizations, Türkiye’s ongoing support for Syria, and its role in the European security framework.

Terrorist organization’s disbandment urged

Turkish MoD sources stressed the importance of the terrorist organization declaring a date for the congress where it will announce its decision to disband and surrender its weapons.

The ministry emphasized that the organization must end its activities and announce the date for disbandment and the unconditional surrender of its arms.

“The terrorist organization must announce the congress date where it will make the decision to cease all operations, dissolve itself, and give up its weapons,” an MoD source stated.

Türkiye’s support for Syria’s stability

Addressing questions about the situation in Syria, the Turkish MoD confirmed that discussions continue between Türkiye and various international partners to assist in Syria’s defense, reconstruction, and development.

According to the sources, Türkiye is ready to provide all necessary support for Syria’s stability, prosperity, and security.

The sources also mentioned the recent visit of Turkish Minister of National Defense, Foreign Minister, and MIT President to Syria, where they discussed regional security and the necessary support Türkiye can offer.

They highlighted the importance of a stable and secure Syria for the region’s overall stability.

Türkiye’s position in European security architecture

The MoD sources also addressed questions about Türkiye’s role in the European security architecture.

They reaffirmed that Türkiye’s position in European security is based on national rights and interests, not solely on Europe’s expectations. As a NATO and Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) member and an EU candidate, Türkiye is an essential part of Europe’s security framework, owing to its geostrategic location, advanced defense industry, and its role in resolving regional crises.

Türkiye’s military capabilities, including operational experience, combat readiness, and modern equipment, are highly regarded internationally. “With its high-tech weapon systems and qualified personnel, the Turkish Armed Forces have become an indispensable player in regional and global security and stability,” the sources added.

Security discussions in London

The briefing also touched upon Türkiye’s participation in the Security Chiefs’ Meeting in London. A delegation from the Turkish Ministry of National Defense, including representatives from the General Staff and the Armed Forces, attended the Ukraine Security Symposium on March 20.

The meeting focused on potential actions and discussions about sending a peacekeeping force to Ukraine, with the emphasis on first achieving a cease-fire

“It is too early to talk about sending a peacekeeping force to Ukraine. First, we need to establish a cease-fire, and then determine the mission’s scope and which countries will contribute,” the MoD stated.

F-35, F-16, Eurofighter Typhoon, and CAATSA updates

Regarding the procurement of advanced fighter jets, MoD sources addressed the ongoing situation with the F-35 program, which Türkiye was excluded from due to the U.S. sanctions related to the purchase of the S-400 missile defense system.

The sources reiterated that Türkiye has consistently opposed sanctions among allies and would consider returning to the F-35 program if the sanctions are lifted.

In terms of other military aircraft procurement, the F-16 Block 70 acquisition process continues in coordination with U.S. partners, while Türkiye is reviewing an official price offer for the Eurofighter Typhoon aircraft from BAE Systems and the U.K. Ministry of Defense.

Israel’s Gaza attacks condemned

MoD sources also commented on Israel’s recent attacks on Gaza. “Israel has once again violated international law and humanitarian values by intensifying its attacks on Gaza,” the sources stated.

They emphasized that the international community must stand firm in its efforts to secure a lasting peace and cease-fire in the region. “Israel’s continued attacks on the defenseless Palestinian population in Gaza threaten regional and global stability. Global peace can only be achieved if the international community takes a resolute stand against this violence,” the sources added.
