The Turkish defense industry is set to showcase its latest innovation, the Skywolf Smart Ammunition Family’s global positioning system aided munition (GAM), during SAHA EXPO 2024, an international defense, aerospace and space industry fair.

Developed to enhance the combat capabilities of Turkish armed drones, Skywolf promises increased firepower and longer range, with an eye on export markets.

GAM ammunition family: Advanced capabilities and modular design

The Skywolf Smart Ammunition Family offers three versions with range capabilities of 20, 40, and over 80 kilometers. Designed for use with unmanned combat aerial vehicles (UCAV) and fixed-wing aircraft, each variant carries a 16-kilogram (35.2 pounds) warhead and features advanced inertial navigation system(INS)/global positioning system(GPS) guidance systems for precise strikes against both stationary and moving targets.

GAM-X: Extra firepower for armored targets

The family’s most powerful member, GAM-X (Extra), is engineered for use against heavily armored or fortified targets. Equipped with a significantly larger warhead, GAM-X delivers superior penetration and destructive capability, setting a new benchmark in smart ammunition technology.

Operational superiority, flexible deployment

With its 2-3 times stronger warheads and wider engagement envelope compared to its global counterparts, the GAM family is expected to have a wide impact on the battlefield. The system supports both single-use and swarm deployment, offering “fire-and-forget” functionality and the option for man-in-the-loop control, allowing real-time target updates.
