Turkish chess prodigy becomes youngest player to surpass 2600 ELO

Yagiz Kaan Erdogmus, the youngest player in the world to hold the grandmaster title, has reached another milestone on Sunday, becoming the youngest player to surpass an ELO rating of 2600 at the age of 13. His latest achievement has drawn comparisons to the early career of Magnus Carlsen.
The Turkish Chess Federation commended Erdogmus for his performance at the Abu Dhabi Chess Festival, noting that his live ELO rating has reached 2601. “Our star athlete… has become the youngest player to surpass a 2600 ELO rating,” the Federation said, while congratulating him and wishing him continued success.
This feat places Erdogmus ahead of Norwegian world chess champion Magnus Carlsen, who crossed the 2600 ELO threshold at age 16 in 2007. Carlsen, now considered one of the greatest chess players in history, achieved the rating after several years of competitive play. Erdogmus, however, has reached this level at a younger age, underscoring his prodigious talent and potential to leave a lasting mark on the game.
