Ankara’s Ambassador to Washington Sedat Onal calls for a strategic approach to address differences and fortify U.S.-Türkiye relations, highlighting the importance of sustained cooperation amid bilateral challenges
Türkiye and the United States must adopt a strategic approach to address their differences and strengthen their relationship, stated Ankara’s Ambassador to Washington, Sedat Onal, during the 39th American-Turkish Conference in Washington.
Onal emphasized the need for a strategic, rather than transactional, approach to address bilateral issues effectively.
The conference serves as a platform for U.S. and Turkish business leaders to engage in commercial diplomacy and highlights collaboration in strategic sectors across third-country markets.
Cooperation between the two countries could enhance security, stability, and prosperity in various regions, contributing to sustainable development goals. Onal stressed the importance of insulating bilateral relations against disruptions and maintaining open-hearted dialogue at various levels.
He highlighted the expansion of trade relations despite challenges like the pandemic, with bilateral trade volume increasing from $19 billion in 2019 to $32 billion in 2023.
Additionally, Onal mentioned the recent LNG cooperation deal as a step towards achieving the target of $100 billion in trade volume.
U.S. Ambassador to Ankara, Jeff Flake, emphasized the indispensable alliance between Türkiye and the U.S., rooted in shared values and mutual interests beyond geopolitics.
