Trade Minister dismisses Israeli claims of easing trade restrictions
Omer Bolat refutes Israeli Foreign Minister Yisrael Katz’s claims that Türkiye has eased trade restrictions with Israel, emphasizing that the trade halt remains until certain conditions are met
Trade Minister Omer Bolat has vehemently denied allegations that Türkiye has relaxed trade restrictions against Israel in response to claims by Israeli Foreign Minister Yisrael Katz.
Katz claimed on social media that “President Erdogan has rolled back most of the trade restrictions,” which sparked a swift correction from Bolat, who described these assertions as “purely fictional and completely unconnected with reality.”
Following Israel’s attacks on Gaza, Türkiye terminated its trade activities with the nation, a move that stirred extensive media attention. Bolat firmly stated, “We stand behind our decision on trade with Israel. This decision remains in effect,” emphasizing the ongoing validity of their trade stance.
The Turkish government has set specific conditions for reconsidering trade ties: stopping the attacks on Gaza, establishing a permanent ceasefire, and ensuring continuous humanitarian aid to the Palestinians. “Until these conditions are met, our decision to halt trade with Israel remains in effect,” Bolat declared, underlining the prerequisites for any change in policy.
Katz’s contentious remarks also included suggestions to resist “the threats of the dictator,” referencing Erdogan, and to seek alternatives to reliance on “Muslim Brotherhood operatives.” These comments have not swayed the Turkish stance, with Bolat reinforcing the country’s position amidst these provocations.
