Trabzon to boost tourism with direct flights from Tbilisi
During a meeting held at the Trabzon Metropolitan Municipality Conference Hall, Mayor Ahmet Genc stated that tourism is an emerging trend in the city.
Emphasizing that Trabzon offers attractions that appeal to everyone, Genc said, “Especially in recent years, we have made significant efforts to host tourists from different countries in the best possible way and to contribute to Trabzon’s economy. We want to continue with the same approach going forward.”
Highlighting the goal of promoting year-round tourism in Trabzon, Genc added, “We have started taking concrete steps to realize the Cakirgol Ski Tourism Center, which we have been working on. Having tourism throughout the year in Trabzon is very valuable. Trabzon is already a major tourism center in our country. Significant progress has also been made in health care, with the introduction of private hospitals further enhancing our importance in this area.”
Genc mentioned that direct flights to Georgia will be launched to boost Trabzon’s health tourism potential:
Last year, 41,738 people visited Trabzon from Batumi alone for health tourism. We have had discussions on further developing this initiative, including with Tbilisi.

He continued, “We wanted to expand this initiative to cover all of Georgia, starting with Tbilisi. We have now reached the stage where direct flights from Tbilisi to Trabzon will begin. This will further strengthen Trabzon’s position as a health tourism hub.”
Genc announced that direct flights from Tbilisi to Trabzon are planned twice a week, on Wednesdays and Sundays:
We hope to start before the end of August, but discussions and protocols with agencies and relevant institutions are ongoing. We can expect the flights to be operational by September at the latest. The exact date of the first flight has not been determined yet.
