Ship traffic through the Bosphorus has been suspended in both directions because of thick fog.

According to officials, the Bosphorus has been closed to the passage of transit vessels due to restricted visibility.

The fog began affecting the Bosphorus and several parts of the city early in the morning.

Authorities issue stop orders for vessels

At 9:55 a.m., authorities informed that all vessels in transit within the Bosphorus were instructed by radio to halt their movement. The warning to captains stressed that the suspension of transit ship traffic was for safety reasons.

Traffic to resume once fog lifts

Officials stated that once the fog dissipates, maritime traffic will return to normal. The resumption of ship movements will depend on visibility reaching safe levels.
