Following the March 31 local elections, a meeting between Meral Aksener, who recently stepped down as leader of the IYI Party, and President Recep Tayyip Erdogan at the Presidential Complex in Bestepe has become a major topic of discussion. Although details of the meeting remain unclear, Aksener’s silence has sparked speculation and caused varied reactions within the IYI Party.

On June 5, Aksener and Erdogan met at the Presidential Complex in Bestepe, and no statement was made following the meeting.

The meeting leads to a rift among IYI Party members

In the aftermath of the meeting, discussions about the new constitution proposed by the AKP following the March 31 local elections have resurfaced. Speculation suggests that Erdogan might seek Aksener’s support for a new constitution initiative.

Another rumor stirring the political scene involves the potential establishment of a new High Advisory Board. Despite the existence of a current board, it is deemed ineffective, leading to talks of forming a new advisory body to which Aksener might be invited.

One of the implications of the Aksener-Erdogan meeting centers around the debate on “MP transfers.” Some IYI Party members express concerns that the meeting could trigger more defections to the main opposition party, Republican People’s Party (CHP).

Additionally, Aksener’s silence has fueled various speculations. One rumor suggests that she met with Erdogan to request an ambassadorial position in Paris for her son. This claim was refuted by IYI Party Istanbul MP Burak Akburak, who stated, “The allegations about asking for an ambassadorship for a family member are rubbish. Completely fabricated. No such offer was made during the meeting.”

There are also rumors that Aksener met with Erdoğan with aspirations of becoming Vice President, but it has been indicated that it is not possible.
