Terrorist groups must lay down arms immediately: Turkish Defense Minister

Turkish Defense Minister Yasar Guler has called for the immediate and unconditional disarmament of the PKK and all its affiliates operating under different names in various regions.
Speaking at the graduation ceremony of the Military Academy for Non-Commissioned Officers in Balikesir’s Altieylul district, Guler emphasized Türkiye’s firm stance on national security and counterterrorism efforts.
Guler: Türkiye’s expanding role in global security
Minister Guler highlighted the complex geopolitical environment, noting that Türkiye has adopted proactive and preventive strategies to address emerging threats.
“Türkiye has become an indispensable player in global security architecture, taking on key roles in negotiations and international security efforts across multiple regions,” he stated.
He pointed out Türkiye’s critical role in maintaining stability in Africa, the Caucasus, and the Middle East, as well as its contributions to European security. “From efforts to end the war in the Black Sea region to our missions in Azerbaijan, Libya, Somalia, Qatar, Kosovo, and Bosnia-Herzegovina, the Turkish Armed Forces (TAF) continues to fulfill significant responsibilities,” Guler added.

Türkiye’s counterterrorism operations and border security
Guler underscored the TAF’s commitment to ensuring national security by eliminating terrorist threats.
“Our armed forces have effectively constrained terrorist organizations’ mobility, marking a critical phase in our counterterrorism campaign,” he said. “This effort is not just about military operations but also about showcasing the resilience of our people, the determination of our government, and the sacrifices of our security forces.”
Guler emphasized that the PKK and its affiliated groups must acknowledge that “terrorism leads nowhere” and that the organization has reached a point where it must dissolve.
“Regardless of their location or alias, all terrorist organizations must declare their dissolution and unconditionally surrender their weapons,” he stressed.

Türkiye’s position on a permanent solution to terrorism
Guler dismissed discussions of a cease-fire, stating that such a notion was not on the table.
“Our ultimate goal, shared by 85 million citizens, is the complete eradication of terrorism and the elimination of all threats to our country,” he said. “We will not allow any attempts to prolong or manipulate the process. Our approach will remain measured and strategic.”
President Erdogan’s address to graduates
During the ceremony, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan addressed attendees via Minister Guler’s phone, congratulating the new graduates and their families.
“Undoubtedly, this is one of the happiest moments for parents—to witness their children graduate from such a distinguished institution,” Erdogan said. “Having over 1,200 new non-commissioned officers join our ranks today is a source of pride for both our families and our military. I extend my heartfelt congratulations and best wishes.”
