An indictment has been prepared in the case of the stabbing death of 15-year-old Mattia Ahmet Minguzzi, the son of an Italian chef, in Kadikoy, Istanbul.

The Anadolu Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office demands prison sentences of 18 to 24 years for both suspects, identified as U.B. and B.B., on charges of “premeditated murder against a child.”

B.B. stabbed Minguzzi multiple times, U.B. kicked him on the ground

The indictment details the events of January 24, when Minguzzi and his friends encountered the suspects at Kadikoy’s historic Tuesday market. After a verbal exchange, B.B. allegedly pushed Minguzzi, punched him, and attacked him with a knife, causing injuries to various parts of his body.

According to the indictment, when Minguzzi fell to the ground, U.B. kicked him. Despite intervention by bystanders, the suspects fled the scene. Minguzzi succumbed to his injuries 17 days later.

Witness account reveals provocation over ‘bicycle gang’ remark

A witness and friend of Minguzzi, identified as D.A.D., said their group went to the market when a boy previously known to him called them a “bicycle gang.” Minguzzi reportedly corrected him by saying, “It’s not a bicycle, it’s a skateboard.” This led to a verbal altercation, which the shopkeepers managed to break up.

However, as the group was leaving, the suspects returned, with one attacking Minguzzi and the other stabbing him multiple times, D.A.D. stated.

Suspects’ statements: Conflicting justifications for attack

In his statement, U.B. admitted to kicking Minguzzi but denied using a knife. He said he saw B.B. stab Minguzzi five to six times.

B.B. defended his actions by claiming Minguzzi had insulted his mother and sister, stating that he acted under provocation.

Autopsy confirms fatal injuries from knife attack

The autopsy report from the Forensic Medicine Institute noted three sharp force injuries and a penetrating wound to the chest. The cause of death was determined to be internal organ damage resulting from the knife attack.

Security footage corroborates witness accounts

Camera footage from the scene clearly identified the suspects, the indictment said. It also highlighted that B.B. had taken the knife from a market stall before attacking Minguzzi.

The indictment, seeking 18 to 24 years in prison for each suspect on charges of “premeditated murder against a child,” has been submitted to the Anadolu Juvenile High Criminal Court for review.

What happened?

On January 24, Mattia Ahmet Minguzzi went to the market in Hasanpasa neighborhood with friends to buy skateboard equipment. During an argument with U.B. and B.B., Minguzzi was stabbed five times by B.B., and U.B. kicked him when he fell to the ground.

Minguzzi was taken to the hospital in critical condition but died in intensive care on February 9. The suspects, who fled the scene, were apprehended and later arrested.
