TCG Kinaliada, which set sail from Türkiye in April in memory of the Ertugrul Frigate that sank on its return journey to Japan in 1890, reached its destination in the Far East during its voyage covering 20 countries and 24 ports.

The ship conducted a joint exercise with JS Takanami during its journey.

Following Ertugrul’s route 134 years later, the military vessel visited its first stop in Japan, Kushimoto, from June 8-11. After an official ceremony at the Ertugrul Frigate Martyrs’ Monument on Kasino Beach in Kushimoto, the ship arrived in Tokyo, the capital, on June 12.

The Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force announced the exercise through its official X account, highlighting the historical friendship between Japan and Türkiye dating back to 1890 when the locals in Kushimoto warmly supported Türkiye during the Ertugrul tragedy.

Despite the distance, the two nations maintain a close bond through naval exercises like the one between TCG Kinaliada and Takanami, as well as goodwill events, all in the pursuit of global peace.

The Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force also mentioned in their post that Japanese hospitality will be extended to the Türkiye’s sailors.
