Sweden’s Intelligence Agency Director Charlotte von Essen emphasizes the country’s commitment to preventing the activities of the terrorist organization PKK

Sweden’s Intelligence Agency Director Charlotte von Essen stated that they aim to prevent the activities of the terrorist organization PKK, which uses Sweden as a base, and that they have taken measures in this regard.

Von Essen explained the importance of cooperation with different countries when combating terrorism.

Von Essen noted that they have recently taken decisive measures against terrorism and have cooperated well with Türkiye within this framework.

‘In our assessment for this year, the classification of the PKK as a terrorist organization will continue. We are taking a series of measures to narrow the scope of the terrorist organization. We have the desire to reduce and prevent the activities of various actors of the PKK, which uses Sweden as a base,” she said.

“Russia, China and Iran are countries that threaten Sweden’s security,” Essen added.

“The intelligence activities originating from these countries pose a significant threat to Sweden’s security,” Essen said.

Reminding that the national terrorism threat level in the country was raised from 3 to 4 on Aug. 17, 2023, Essen said: “We are constantly monitoring to lower the terrorism threat level. The terrorism alert will remain at the highest level of four out of five for longer.”
