Suspect linked to Daesh bomb-making arrested in Istanbul
A suspect involved in training Daesh members in bomb-making and participating in explosive attacks has been arrested in Istanbul, Turkish authorities confirmed Monday.
The Istanbul Police Department’s Counterterrorism Unit apprehended the individual following an extensive investigation.
Suspect trained in bomb-making in Mosul
The suspect, identified as O.M., was found to have received bomb-making training while operating in the Mosul region. Authorities discovered that O.M. had relocated to Istanbul and had been living under the guise of a street vendor to avoid detection.
Investigators also confirmed that O.M. maintained communication with other Daesh operatives active in conflict zones.
Coordinated surveillance, arrest
Counterterrorism units conducted technical and physical surveillance of the suspect. During this investigation, they obtained footage of O.M. involved in bomb-related activities in Mosul. Based on this evidence, a raid was carried out in Istanbul’s Avcilar district, resulting in O.M.’s arrest.
After completing the necessary legal procedures at the police station, O.M. was brought before the court, where he was formally charged and detained.
