Sudan’s Foreign Minister Ali Youssef has commended Türkiye’s steadfast support for Sudan as the country grapples with a devastating conflict between its army and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF).

In an interview with Anadolu Agency, Youssef described the relationship between Türkiye and Sudan as “trustworthy and historical,” emphasizing how centuries of ties have fostered strong communication between the two nations.

Highlighting Türkiye’s backing during the ongoing crisis, he said, “Under the leadership of President Erdogan, Türkiye has shown a generous and positive stance towards the people and state of Sudan during the war.”

Since April 2023, Sudan has been embroiled in violent clashes over military reform and integration, which have claimed more than 20,000 lives, displaced millions, and left over 25 million people in urgent need of humanitarian assistance, according to the United Nations.

Youssef expressed optimism about President Erdogan’s offer to mediate disputes between Sudan and the United Arab Emirates (UAE), citing Erdogan’s previous success in brokering peace between Ethiopia and Somalia. “We hope that the initiatives put forward, including the proposal of the wise and experienced leader Erdogan… will be successful,” he said.
