Son of former Deputy PM to Erdogan arrested in Ankara for murder of grandmother
Bedirhan Sener, son of former Turkish Deputy PM Abdullatif Sener under Recep Tayyip Erdogan, has been arrested in Ankara on charges of “premeditated murder” and “attempted premeditated murder” of his grandmother, Leyla Cetiner.
The arrest follows a tragic incident on July 31, when an argument between Sener and his grandmother escalated, leading to her being held at gunpoint and subsequently killed.
Initially, Sener was placed under judicial control and barred from leaving the country. His mental state was called into question, prompting a psychiatric evaluation at Bilkent City Hospital’s High-Security Forensic Psychiatry Department, where he was kept under observation for three weeks.
A report from Bilkent City Hospital concluded that Sener did not suffer from any mental illness or weakness that would impair his criminal responsibility. The report noted that Sener was fully capable of understanding the legal implications and consequences of his actions and was able to control his behavior at the time of the incident.
Based on the findings and evidence collected, Bedirhan Sener was formally charged and arrested by the Criminal Court of Peace on accusations of “premeditated murder” and “attempted premeditated murder” against a direct ancestor.
