Russia to host inter-Palestinian meeting in Moscow
The primary objective of the meeting is to facilitate political unity among various Palestinian factions
Russia is set to host an inter-Palestinian meeting in Moscow from Feb. 29 to March 2, Presidential envoy for the Middle East and Africa Mikhail Bogdanov announced Friday.
According to Bogdanov, representatives from all Palestinian political factions, including those based in Syria, Lebanon and other Middle Eastern countries, have been invited to the meeting. Approximately 14 organizations have received invitations.
The primary objective of the Moscow meeting is to facilitate political unity among various Palestinian factions.
Bogdanov reiterated Russia’s support for the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) as the legitimate representative of the Palestinian people, recognized by the international community.
Regarding the situation of hostages in Gaza, Bogdanov acknowledged that three Russian citizens are held by Hamas, with efforts ongoing to assist them and others detained.
He noted that Russia receives requests from multiple countries seeking assistance in securing the release of their citizens.
Expressing concerns over Israel’s planned expansion of its military operations into the southern city of Rafah, Bogdanov highlighted the complexities involved in the liberation of hostages, mainly due to the concentration of people in the area.
