Russia aims to deepen security cooperation with Türkiye
Sergei Shoigu, Secretary of the Russian Security Council, announced plans to enhance security-level contacts with Türkiye on Monday, following a meeting with Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan in Moscow.
During the meeting, Shoigu emphasized his commitment to increasing dialogue between the security councils of the two nations. “I am prepared to strengthen Russia-Türkiye contacts at the security council level,” Shoigu stated.
He extended greetings to several Turkish officials, including National Intelligence Organization President Ibrahim Kalin, Minister of National Defense Yasar Guler, and National Security Council Secretary Seyfullah Hacimuftuoglu, inviting them to visit Russia at an appropriate time.
Shoigu also proposed holding comprehensive bilateral consultations on security matters in the third quarter of this year, suggesting Moscow or Ankara as potential locations.
The meeting focused on discussing the framework of Russia-Türkiye security cooperation, both bilaterally and in multilateral contexts. According to the Russian Security Council’s press release, the discussions reaffirmed a mutual intent to develop a strategic partnership aimed at enhancing international and regional security.
