The Ruling Justice and Development Party (AK Party), which has recently accelerated the changes within the party, continues to work on the reshuffling process.

Within this context, AK Party Central Decision and Administrative Board (MKYK) convened under the leadership of President and AK Party Chairman Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

During the meeting, President Erdogan endorsed the decision to initiate the party’s congress process.

Expectations for change

According to the MKYK’s plan, the congress process is set to commence in October, with provincial congresses concluding by the end of April.

The grand congress is scheduled for May 2025.

President Erdogan addressed ongoing discussions about change within the party and the public, asserting: “It will follow the timetable and framework we have established,” and highlighted the upcoming grand congress.

Significant changes are anticipated in both provincial and district-level administrations and the party leadership.

Erdogan, reportedly, plans to implement changes within the MKYK, particularly with an eye on the 2028 elections, and will refresh the party’s leadership with younger representatives.

Historically, Erdogan has replaced over 50% of his existing team during both Congress and election periods.

AK Party sources suggest that an even greater level of change is expected in the upcoming congress.
