The Sungur air defense missile system is designed for short-range air defense for mobile or fixed units and facilities on the battlefield and in the rear area. It is compatible with different platform integrations.

With a minimum range of 500 meters and a maximum range of 8 kilometers, Sungur can reach an altitude of 4 kilometers above sea level. It can target fixed-wing aircraft, rotary-wing aircraft, and unmanned aerial vehicles. Sungur stands out with its pre-firing target lock-on (fire-and-forget) feature.

The Turkish Armed Forces received the first batch of Sungur in 2022.

The weapon system takes its name from the bird Sungur (saker falcon), which holds an important place in Turkish mythology and is known for its speed and agility.
