Prosecutors look into suspicious death of murder victim Narin Guran’s sister from 2019
The murder of 8-year-old victim Narin Guran has prompted authorities to reopen the investigation into her sister Tulin’s suspicious death, which took place five years ago in 2019.
Türkiye’s prosecutors have intensified their probe into the suspicious death of Tulin Guran.
This development comes alongside the investigation into the murder of her younger sister, Narin, whose tragic death has shocked the nation and led to public demands for justice.
Authorities scrutinize Tulin Guran’s suspicious death after new evidence surfaces
In 2019, Tulin reportedly died from respiratory failure at Diyarbakir Children’s Hospital. Her family claimed she fell down the stairs, but no autopsy was performed at the time.
Investigators have now requested all relevant medical records, X-rays, and documents from the hospital, considering the possibility of foul play. Exhuming her body could be the next step if evidence points to more than an accident.
Despite the family’s insistence that Tulin’s death was natural, rumors have circulated that she may have been pushed. These suspicions have led the prosecutor’s office to link the investigation to Narin’s murder.
Murder victim Narin Guran’s case results in multiple arrests
Narin vanished on Aug.21 after returning from Quran lessons in the Tavsantepe neighborhood of Diyarbakir’s Baglar district. Following a search by her family and local residents, her father reported her missing to the gendarmerie.
Nineteen days later, her body was discovered in a sack near Egertutmaz Creek, concealed under stones and branches.
Authorities detained 24 individuals in connection with the case, including Narin’s parents, two brothers, and three uncles. Among them, her uncle Salim Guran and a man named Nevzat Bahtiyar have been arrested.
Bahtiyar confessed to his role in disposing of Narin’s body. He described how Salim had approached him, pointing to something wrapped in a blanket in his car. “You will get rid of this,” Salim said, according to Bahtiyar’s statement.
Bahtiyar initially hesitated, but Salim threatened him, saying, “Think of your family. I’ll give you 200,000 Turkish liras (around $6,000).” Bahtiyar later transported Narin’s body to the creek and covered it with stones.
Uncle denies involvement despite DNA evidence, lawyer withdraws
Salim Guran denied killing Narin but could not explain why her DNA was found in his vehicle. When investigators asked him about this, he replied, “I cannot explain that.” His lawyer has since withdrawn from the case, stating: “As a mother, I cannot continue the defense.”
President Recep Tayyip Erdogan made a public statement, emphasizing the importance of justice in this case. “I will personally follow the judicial process to ensure that those who took Narin from us receive the heaviest penalty they deserve,” he said.
The autopsy report for Narin revealed that her body was too decomposed to determine the exact cause of death.
However, investigators remain committed to uncovering the truth behind both Narin’s murder and Tulin’s death.
Prosecutors are now working to find any connections between the two deaths, while the public continues to push for justice for the Guran sisters.
