President Erdogan spends busy April with intensive diplomatic engagements
President Erdogan’s active diplomatic engagements in April spanned discussions with over 20 global leaders, focusing on bilateral relations and addressing the Gaza situation
In April, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan engaged in a flurry of diplomatic activities, conducting talks with over 20 heads of state and government leaders. These discussions centered on bilateral relations and addressing Israel’s actions in Gaza.
In addition to phone calls with the presidents of Azerbaijan, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Iran, Algeria, Pakistan, Indonesia, and Romania, he also spoke with the emir of Qatar, crown prince of Saudi Arabia, sultan of Oman, and the chairman of the Turkmenistan People’s Council.
Erdogan’s Palestine diplomacy
He also spoke with the presidents of the United Arab Emirates and Nigeria, as well as the prime ministers of Malaysia and Pakistan.
During these meetings, President Erdogan evaluated both bilateral relations and raised the issue of Israel’s attacks on Gaza.
He emphasized the need for an urgent and lasting cease-fire in Gaza and uninterrupted humanitarian aid delivery to Palestinians. In this context, he spoke with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas over the phone and hosted Hamas Political Bureau Chief Ismail Haniyeh in Istanbul.
President Erdogan also had face-to-face meetings with some heads of state and government leaders.
He met with the presidents of Germany and Tanzania in Ankara. He received the prime minister of Kazakhstan in Ankara and the prime minister of the Netherlands, as well as the foreign ministers of Egypt and New Zealand, in Istanbul.
Erdogan visits Iraq after 13 years
Last month, Erdogan made his only foreign visit to Iraq after a 13-year hiatus. He first met with the president and prime minister of Iraq in Baghdad, then held talks with the president and prime minister of the Kurdistan Regional Government in Erbil.
President Erdogan’s diplomatic traffic is expected to continue this month as well.
