Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan emphasized Türkiye’s determination to strengthen its relations with BRICS and reiterated the country’s resolve to combat terrorism following the recent attack in Ankara.

Speaking at the BRICS Summit, Erdogan underscored the need for peace, justice and development in the Middle East and beyond.

Condemnation of terrorist attack in Ankara

Addressing the summit, Erdogan condemned the terrorist attack on Turkish Aerospace Industries (TAI) in Ankara, which left five civilians dead and 22 wounded.

“This despicable attack has further reinforced Türkiye’s determination and resolve to eliminate terrorism,” Erdogan stated.

He expressed gratitude to the international community, particularly BRICS members, for their solidarity and condolences in the aftermath of the attack. Terrorist attacks in Ankara have further strengthened Türkiye’s determination and resolve to eliminate terrorism, the president said.

Call for peace and justice in Middle East

Erdogan also spoke about the ongoing conflict in the Middle East, emphasizing that without an end to the bloodshed, there can be no justice, peace, or development for future generations.

“As long as bloodshed in the Middle East is not stopped, there can be no talk of justice, peace, or development for the future,” says Turkish President Erdogan.

He called for immediate action to halt arms sales to Israel, highlighting Türkiye’s initiative at the United Nations aimed at suspending arms transfers. “I count on your support in this regard,” Erdogan told BRICS leaders.

“We have launched the initiative at the UN to halt arms sales to Israel,” Erdogan says, adding: “I trust in support you, BRICS member countries, will provide on this matter”

Global peace and security

The Turkish president stressed that a global order of justice and development can only be achieved by establishing peace and security beyond national borders.

Erdogan reiterated Türkiye’s commitment to working with international partners to create a more peaceful and secure future.
