President Erdogan meets with Qatar’s Al Thani in Ankara
President Recep Tayyip Erdogan welcomed Qatar Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani at the Presidential Complex in Ankara.
The primary agenda for the meeting focused on ongoing developments in the Middle East, particularly the situation in Palestine.
Middle East developments
The leaders discussed recent attacks by Israel on Palestine and Lebanon, as well as rising tensions between Tehran and Tel Aviv. Strategies to pressure the Israeli government into agreeing to a ceasefire and delivering humanitarian aid to Palestinians were key points of the conversation.
The meeting also addressed high-level relations between Türkiye and Qatar. Discussions included ways to enhance bilateral trade, which reached 1.3 billion USD last year, and to increase mutual investments.
Türkiye also has a military base in Qatar, which it will host F-16’s and two patrol ships to Qatar, continuing its strategy of enhancing military cooperation and supporting regional stability.
The deployment of Turkish naval forces to Qatar is a defensive measure aimed at stabilizing a volatile region marked by conflicts in the Strait of Hormuz and the Red Sea.
