President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Hungarian Prime Minister Victor Orban held discussions on various topics, including bilateral relations and Israel’s actions against the Palestinians, during their meeting at the Antalya Diplomacy Forum.
Their discussions also covered updates on the Ukraine conflict, Türkiye-EU relations and NATO’s expansion plans.
Erdogan stressed the responsibility of all nations in preventing what he termed Israeli attempts at genocide in Gaza, citing the loss of over 30,000 Palestinian lives alongside extensive destruction and displacement. He urged the world not to turn a blind eye to the suffering of innocent Palestinians.
Growing ties between Türkiye, Hungary
Erdogan highlighted the growing ties between Türkiye and Hungary, spanning the economy, defense industry, energy and transportation sectors.
Accompanying Erdogan were Turkish Culture and Tourism Minister Mehmet Nuri Ersoy, National Defense Minister Yasar Guler, Intelligence Chief Ibrahim Kalin, Communications Director Fahrettin Altun, Chief Security and Foreign Policy Adviser Akif Cagatay Kilic, and Ambassador to Budapest Gulsen Karanis.
Orban emphasized Türkiye’s vital role in managing the migration issue in Europe, praising Erdogan’s active involvement in addressing this challenge.
He also pointed out unfulfilled promises from Brussels to Ankara, stating that Europe would face significant hurdles without Türkiye’s strong leadership.
In a separate statement, Orban expressed his appreciation for meeting President Erdogan at the Antalya Diplomacy Forum, expressing his eagerness to further bolster their strategic partnership in trade, energy, and the defense industry.
FM Fidan met his Armenian counterpart
Meanwhile, Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan met with Armenian counterpart Ararat Mirzoyan in Antalya during the forum. Mirzoyan was attending the event as part of his visit to Türkiye.
The Foreign Ministry did not provide additional details regarding the Fidan-Mirzoyan meeting.
