President Recep Tayyip Erdogan held a telephone conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin to discuss a range of issues concerning bilateral relations, regional security and global matters.

Cooperation in resolving regional issues

According to a statement released from the Republic of Türkiye Directorate of Communications, during the conversation, President Erdogan highlighted the crucial role of Türkiye-Russia cooperation in resolving regional problems.

He stated that Türkiye is closely following the efforts to end the war between Russia and Ukraine and reiterated Ankara’s readiness to offer support in peace negotiations.

Erdogan emphasized that Türkiye is prepared to host peace talks to facilitate an honorable and lasting resolution to the conflict.

“We are ready to provide all kinds of support, including hosting peace negotiations, to ensure an honorable and lasting peace,” President Erdogan reportedly said during the call.

The two leaders also discussed the significance of ensuring the safety of commercial navigation in the Black Sea.

Erdogan expressed that measures aimed at enhancing security in the region would contribute to the broader peace process, reiterating Türkiye’s commitment to preventing the Black Sea from becoming a zone of conflict.

Focus on Syria’s stability and territorial integrity

The situation in Syria was another key topic of the conversation.

President Erdogan stressed that Türkiye attaches great importance to cooperation with Russia on the Syrian issue, particularly in ensuring the country’s territorial integrity and achieving lasting peace and stability.

Erdogan pointed out that both countries can collaborate to prevent efforts aimed at destabilizing Syria, including actions that fuel ethnic and sectarian division.

“It is vital for Syria’s stability that it is no longer a suitable area for terrorist organizations,” President Erdogan reportedly emphasized, further stressing that Syria’s resources should be under the control of the Syrian administration.

Erdogan reiterated Türkiye’s support for the dissolution of the so-called SDF within Syria’s central government framework and the complete lifting of sanctions against Syria.

Continued collaboration and future engagement

The phone call also set the stage for continued cooperation between the two countries. President Erdogan expressed Ankara’s commitment to working with Russia to address shared regional security challenges.

The two leaders agreed to maintain open channels for communication and future discussions on strategic issues.
