President Erdogan chairs National Security Council
The National Security Council, chaired by President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, will convene today (Tuesday) focusing primarily on counterterrorism efforts.
Scheduled to take place at the Bestepe Presidential Complex, the meeting will delve into various matters and prominently feature discussions on efforts to combat terrorism.
Borders in focus
Türkiye aims to eradicate terrorist strongholds along its borders with Iraq by summer’s end. The meeting will center on ongoing operations to neutralize terrorist elements in northern Iraq, as well as forthcoming operations in the pipeline.
Additionally, measures to counter the PKK terrorist organization’s attempts to hold illegitimate elections and legitimize its presence in occupied areas of northern Syria will be on the agenda.
Combat with terrorism
National Defense Minister Yasar Guler and council members will update President Erdogan on the status of ongoing operations and counterterrorism efforts. The meeting will also review the progress made in combating other terrorist groups, such as FETO and Daesh.
Israel’s aggression to be discussed
The council will deliberate on the recent Israeli attacks in Palestinian territories, exploring measures to halt the violence, ensure unhindered humanitarian aid, secure a cease-fire and assess diplomatic initiatives.
Furthermore, regional issues such as the Russia-Ukraine conflict, the peace process between Azerbaijan and Armenia, developments in Iran and relations with Greece will be examined.
On the other hand, efforts to update the National Security Policy Document, commonly called the “Red Book,” will also be scrutinized during the council session.
