President Erdogan emphasizes urgent need for Israel to recognize an independent Palestinian state with its capital as East Jerusalem, urging global action to alleviate the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Palestine

President Recep Tayyip Erdogan addressed the World Governments Summit in Dubai on Tuesday as he issued a poignant call for Israel to reassess its policies.

“Israel must abandon its expansionist policies and acknowledge the presence of an independent Palestinian state with its capital in Jerusalem, based on the 1967 borders and possessing territorial integrity,” Erdogan said.

Erdogan stressed the importance of establishing “an independent and geographically unified Palestinian state” as a pivotal step toward regional peace, stability and economic prosperity.

Erdogan further underscored Türkiye’s willingness to shoulder responsibility alongside other regional nations as a guarantor. He emphasized Türkiye’s ongoing efforts in providing humanitarian assistance to Gaza, stating, “We have sent 34,000 tons of humanitarian aid material to Gaza,” and reiterated Türkiye’s steadfast support for initiatives in line with international law.

Expressing deep concern over the global repercussions of Israel’s current policies, Erdogan urges countries to support the United Nations agency for Palestinian refugees, calling it a lifeline for 6 million refugees in Jordan, Lebanon, Palestine and Syria.

He urged swift action to halt the ongoing violence in Gaza, emphasizing the imperative to prevent further bloodshed, particularly among innocent civilians.

Erdogan’s remarks underscore Türkiye’s unwavering commitment to advocating for Palestinian rights and addressing the humanitarian crisis in Gaza. He called for international solidarity in alleviating suffering and advancing peace efforts in the region.
