President Biden has urged Israel to reconsider plans for a military assault on Rafah, emphasizing the need to protect the vulnerable population and work toward a cease-fire agreement

President Joe Biden urged Israel to halt plans for a full-scale military assault on the city of Rafah in southern Gaza, following a deadly hostage rescue operation that resulted in the deaths of numerous Palestinians.

During discussions with Jordan’s King Abdullah at the White House on Monday, Biden emphasized the necessity of ensuring the safety and support of over a million individuals seeking shelter in Rafah, many of whom have been displaced multiple times due to ongoing violence.

The president stated that the U.S. has been tirelessly working to broker a six-week cease-fire agreement between Israel and Hamas, with significant progress made, although some differences still exist.

In the early hours of Monday, Israeli airstrikes targeted Rafah as part of a hostage rescue mission, resulting in casualties among civilians, including women and children, according to hospital sources. The strikes caused widespread panic among residents who were caught off guard while sleeping.
