Political analyst and columnist Rasim Ozan Kutahyali has been detained as part of an investigation launched by the Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office on charges of “publicly spreading misleading information.”

The investigation stems from Kutahyali’s social media posts, in which he claimed that the main opposition party, the Republican People’s Party (CHP), 38th Ordinary Congress would be canceled and that a trustee would be appointed to the party.

His claims were swiftly denied by Turkish authorities.

He also suggested that operations could be carried out against two municipalities in Ankara.

Authorities stated that his claims had no basis in fact and were deemed as potentially misleading to the public, prompting legal action.

Due to his statements, Turkish stock futures, which are active at the night sessions, suffered huge losses.
