Police nab Russian national with fake identity at nuclear plant
Turkish counterterrorism forces detain a Russian national working under a false identity at a nuclear power plant construction site in a bid to combat terrorism across the country
Turkish counterterrorism police, in their investigation into the Daesh militant group, detained a Russian national employed at a nuclear power plant construction site on Türkiye’s southern coast.
According to the sources, the individual in question was discovered working under a false identity at the Akkuyu nuclear plant, a $20-billion project overseen by Russian conglomerate Rosatom in the province of Mersin along the Mediterranean coast.
Mersin police confirmed that a Turkish court has formally remanded the foreign suspect in custody. However, the individual’s nationality and further details regarding the operation were not disclosed in their statement.
Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya reported last week that Türkiye had arrested 147 individuals suspected of links to Daesh across 33 provinces.
