Police arrest 32 suspects with links to organized crime syndicate

Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya announces the arrest of 32 suspects connected to an organized crime syndicate in Istanbul following the Mahzen-29 operations, involving offenses ranging from attempted murder to drug trafficking

Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya announced that 32 suspects allegedly linked to an organized crime syndicate have been detained in Istanbul as part of the Mahzen-29 operations.

In a statement made on his social media account, Yerlikaya stated that the suspects, who were found to be involved in offenses including attempted murder, murder, endangering public safety, damaging property, violating Law No. 6136, drug manufacturing and trafficking, threats, and insults, have been arrested.

According to Yerlikaya, the operations conducted between April 8 to April 17 targeted individuals responsible for various criminal activities, including attempted murder against a businessperson, shooting incidents targeting businesses and residences of individuals in several Istanbul districts, abduction of an individual whose images were circulated in the press, murder in Istanbul’s Kagithane district, and throwing a hand grenade in a parking lot.

Additionally, it was determined that the suspects acquired 30 firearms ready for sale for distribution among organization members in Istanbul, and engaged in the production of firearms by assembling various firearm components.

Yerlikaya further stated that during the operations, 34 unlicensed pistols, 2 unlicensed automatic pistols, 3 fake license plates used in three separate incidents, various amounts of packaged drugs ready for sale, precision scales, a significant amount of foreign currency, and Turkish lira were seized.
