As the Turkish Consulate in Hannover faces an attack by PKK sympathizers, diplomatic sources say that there are plans for a similar initiative in Berlin

Sympathizers of the terrorist group PKK in Germany targeted Türkiye’s Consulate General building in Hannover late Tuesday.

During a march in support of the PKK, 12 PKK sympathizers attempted to break the windows of the consulate general located in the capital of Lower Saxony, northwestern Germany.

The attackers successfully cracked the glass at the main entrance of the consulate general before quickly fleeing the scene.

Following the incident, Consul General Ozge Gul Kaya requested heightened security measures from German authorities for the consulate general and the offices of Turkish civil society groups.

In a separate event on Tuesday night, PKK sympathizers in Hamburg organized a march, escorted by German police, in solidarity with other supporters of the terrorist group who have been active in Belgium, including in attacks against local Belgian Turks.

After the attack in Hannover, Turkish diplomats held meetings with local authorities and Jurgen Schulz, Germany’s ambassador to Ankara.

According to Turkish diplomatic sources, there are plans for a similar initiative in the German capital of Berlin.

The PKK, in its more than 35-year terror campaign against Türkiye, has been responsible for the deaths of over 40,000 individuals, including women, children, and infants. The group is recognized as a terrorist organization by Türkiye, the U.S. and the EU.

Despite being officially outlawed in the European Union and countries like Germany, the PKK has been observed demonstrating, raising funds for its terror activities and posing threats to locals.

Türkiye has consistently voiced its concerns over the tolerance shown toward the PKK and its supporters across Europe.
