Passenger traffic shows 53.7% increase in airports countrywide
Transport Minister Abdulkadir Uraloglu announces a significant surge in passenger traffic at Turkish airports, with nearly 18 million passengers transported in April, marking a 53.7% increase compared to the same period in 2023
Transport and Infrastructure Minister Abdulkadir Uraloglu announced that nearly 18 million passengers were transported across airports nationwide in Türkiye in April, marking a 53.7% increase in passenger traffic compared to the same month last year.
Uraloglu noted that the number of aircraft take-offs and landings at airports reached 74,591 domestically and 63,727 internationally, totaling 178,614 aircraft movements with overflights.
He emphasized a 28% increase in total aircraft movements compared to April of the previous year.
In April, domestic passenger traffic at Turkish airports reached 8,244,590, while international passenger traffic reached 9,715,111, serving 17,973,101 passengers, including direct transit passengers.
Uraloglu highlighted a record-breaking 53.7% increase in total passenger traffic, including domestic and international, compared to the same month last year.
Additionally, cargo traffic at airports reached 372,430 tons domestically and internationally combined.
The number of aircraft take-offs and landings in the year’s first four months reached 270,495 domestically and 221,040 internationally, totaling 653,472 aircraft movements, including overflights. Uraloglu emphasized a 13.4% increase in total aircraft movements compared to last year.
During this period, Turkish airports served a total of 61,879,094 passengers, including 28,950,375 domestically and 32,868,310 internationally, with direct transit passengers.
Uraloglu highlighted a 23.6% increase in total passenger traffic compared to last year’s period, including a 23.1% increase domestically and a 24.4% increase internationally. Cargo traffic at airports reached 1,373,395 tons domestically and internationally combined.
Uraloglu provided insights into the performance of Istanbul Airport and Istanbul Sabiha Gokcen Airport.
In April, Istanbul Airport served 42,880 aircraft movements and accommodated 6,591,527 passengers, marking a 34% increase in aircraft movements and a 48% increase in passenger traffic compared to the same month last year.
Meanwhile, Istanbul Sabiha Gokcen Airport recorded 19,815 aircraft movements and served 3,336,186 passengers, indicating a 30% increase in aircraft movements and a 59% increase in passenger traffic compared to April last year.
