Ozgur Ozel re-elected as main opposition CHP’s leader at extraordinary congress

At the 21st Extraordinary Congress of the Republican People’s Party (CHP), held in Ankara on April 6, voting for the election of the party leader began at 12:30 p.m. Ozgur Ozel was re-elected as CHP leader.
The congress, organized under the slogan “The Will Belongs to the Nation” at the Yenimahalle Nazim Hikmet Cultural Center, took place with Ozgur Ozel as the only candidate for the leadership position. Delegates cast their votes into 23 ballot boxes, with Ozel casting his vote at ballot box number 1. The voting process concluded at 2:25 p.m.
Ozel re-elected as party leader
Ozel, the sole candidate for CHP’s leadership, was re-elected as the party leader with 1,171 votes.
According to unofficial results, the total number of delegates was 1,323, with 1,276 delegates casting their votes. The total number of valid votes was 1,171, and 105 votes were invalid. Ozel secured 1,171 valid votes to continue as CHP’s leader.
Umit Uysal withdraws candidacy
Umit Uysal, who had previously announced his candidacy for the CHP leadership, withdrew from the race with a written statement before the congress. Uysal’s statement read:
“Due to my inability to attend the CHP’s 21st Extraordinary Congress, I am withdrawing my candidacy. I am taking this step to avoid causing any division within the party. I will continue to support our party’s progress toward a stronger future.”
