In a sweeping crackdown against drug trafficking, Türkiye‘s Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya announced that 2,795 suspects have been detained, and over 13 million pills seized during the two-week-long “Narkokapan-9” operation across 77 provinces.

Coordinated effort across Türkiye against drugs

Yerlikaya shared details of the operation via his social media accounts, emphasizing the extensive coordination among public prosecutors, the General Directorate of Security’s Department of Narcotic Crimes, and provincial police departments.

The operation deployed:

  • 4,192 teams
  • 10,480 personnel
  • 47 aircraft
  • 98 narcotic detection dogs

Massive drug haul and arrests

According to Yerlikaya, authorities seized 1 tonne and 50 kilograms of narcotics along with 13.84 million drug pills.

The operation resulted in the arrest of 2,795 suspects.

“We are on every street, every avenue, every corner! We do not allow the drug dealers to open their eyes. We do not and will not allow them to darken the future of our children,” Yerlikaya stated, reinforcing the government’s commitment to tackling the drug crisis.

“I congratulate our Chief Public Prosecutor’s Offices who coordinated the operations and our Heroic Police Officers who carried out the operations,” he added.
