Nationalist leader to miss meeting with DEM Party, stresses urgency of PKK dissolution

Devlet Bahceli, the leader of the Nationalist Movement Party (MHP), made key statements regarding the upcoming visit by the DEM Party, scheduled for March 17. Bahceli announced that unfortunately, he will not be able to attend the meeting.
However, he expressed his desire to engage in productive discussions and emphasized that the decision to dissolve the PKK terrorist organization and disarm cannot be postponed.
Bahceli’s comments on upcoming visit
Bahceli, who has missed recent group meetings due to health reasons, shared his message via social media. He welcomed the DEM Party’s second visit and expressed his hope to join the discussions, share thoughts, and have meaningful exchanges during future opportunities.
Urging immediate action on PKK dissolution
Bahceli stressed the urgency of dissolving and disarming the PKK. He referred to the ‘Peace and Democratic Society Call’ made by PKK ringleader Abdullah Ocalan on February 27, 2025, urging the organization to disarm and dissolve immediately.
Bahceli emphasized that this process cannot be delayed any longer.
On Ocalan’s role and the PKK’s origins
Bahceli responded to criticism of his use of the term “founding leader” for Abdullah Ocalan. He reaffirmed that Ocalan, as the founder and ringleader of the PKK, remains the organization’s “founding leader,” a fact that cannot be disputed, regardless of opposition.
Call for national unity
Bahceli highlighted the importance of fostering national unity and overcoming divisions within Türkiye. He argued that it is essential to remove prejudices and ensure internal stability to help Türkiye navigate regional and global challenges.
Strengthening internal unity, he said, is crucial for the country’s survival and prosperity.
Commitment to a terror-free Türkiye
Bahceli reiterated the need to eliminate terrorism from Türkiye once and for all. He declared that the time has come to rid the country of terrorism, stating that a future with terrorism is not possible.
Bahceli reflected on the destructive legacy of the PKK’s 41 years of violence and underscored the failure of past negotiations with the group.
Regional developments, strategy against terrorism
Bahceli also mentioned a significant development in Syria, where an agreement was signed on March 10, 2025, between the President of Syria and the PYD/YPG terrorist organization ringleader.
He noted that the agreement is an important step toward securing Syria’s territorial integrity and political unity. Bahceli stressed that the PKK must disband and disarm immediately, a decision critical to Türkiye’s security.
Criticism of opposition, call for cooperation
Bahceli used the opportunity to criticize opposition parties, particularly the Republican People’s Party (CHP), for undermining efforts to establish a terrorism-free Türkiye. He expressed his belief that the DEM Party delegation would support national unity and appreciated their willingness to engage in dialogue with MHP.
Call for patriotism, unity
Bahceli concluded his statement by calling for unity among the Turkish people, especially as the nation prepares to celebrate the Nowruz and Ramadan holidays.
He expressed his hope that Türkiye would become a place where every day is a celebration, stressing the importance of national solidarity to overcome domestic and global challenges.
Bahceli urged everyone to avoid actions or statements that could provoke misunderstandings or destabilize the country’s internal cohesion.
